This week I would like us to think about the point I am going to put up here. This blog will be closed at 8.00 a.m. on Friday 17th September, 2010.
The idea of 'putting the right person to the right job' always fascinates me in such a way of how we look at the rightness or appropriateness of situations. The particular status quo I would like us to look at is about teaching-learning (English) writing courses. There are two ideas concerning this: we should assign someone with a degree in teaching English to teach the courses or allow a writer to teach writing.
No matter which idea you agree with, remember only one strong or convincing reason is enough.
In my first time before I study with you, I think that “we should assign someone with a degree in teaching English to teach the courses” because s/he has more knowledge and in while, s/he should have experiences about teaching. If s/he studies in the course directly, students will get the correct knowledge and I believe that s/he will have tactics for help in studying of students. I don’t mean that writers cannot teach writing course, they can. Students want to get knowledge for writing and if writers bring experience to teach us and how we know that is correct knowledge and if we bring to use in our writing works, other will not see it wrong. After that, I think it’s wrong because you can bring your experiences to teach us and try to learn the academic writing for teaching us. I know you try to be a good teacher and sometime, we didn’t do follow your requests. We know, you feel bad with us but you never give in and try it again! You do it best and we will do it best too!

It is right!! It is the best to fix a right job for someone. If we want to fix the writing course for someone, I think the writers are the most appropriate to teach this courses. As we know that the writers are the groups of people that love to write books, articles or whatever. We can say that they are the really professional in this job. Everything they write must pull the reader’s mind to read their works. Therefore, they have more tactics than teacher in writing skill because they have more chance to do the real job. Moreover, they must write something to attract the readers to buy or read their works. However, the English teachers just know only the writing theory in the right ways, and they do not know how to attract the reader concentration in writing. Therefore, the writers are the most suitable to teach students how to use the tactics in writing to pull the readers mind not only the theory like English teacher teach them.

Assigning someone with a degree in teaching English to teach the courses is the good way. It is an appropriate way for someone who want to studies writing in the short time, but writing in the long time are not. We need the person who is expert toward writing. Allow a writer to teach writing is the perfect way. The reason is because the writer has a lot of experience about writing more than someone with a degree. The good experience is very necessary to someone who would like to expert in writing skill. It is not only important for someone who would like to expert in writing skill, but also it is essential for the student who is studying in the university too. It is because student must use writing skill in several subjects. It is important to graduate from those universities. That is why I absolutely agree with allowing a writer to teach writing.

Writing class is not for learning how to make the students become writers or learning how to write a book. Allowing writer to teach students in writing course is the best way to give them useful knowledge because students will get all the right purposes of learning writing. They could practically apply their writing skills which they get from the real expert to use in their future career. In the same way, most students are interested in learning from the specialist rather than learning from the regular teaching. That is because students always need to explore something new, better, different, and unconventional. Suppose that one day you have to take course in marketing strategy, who will you decide to take a course with, a professor or a successful businessperson like KhunTan(Oishi)? Well, it is obviously see that everyone will chooses to take course with the real expert because they have more experiences and more in everything than the regular professors. By the way, only assigning a person who has the degree in teaching is an old-fashioned of admitting a person to the job. It is not really a good way to maintain an education system of the country. I disagree for letting the writers teach the students in writing course. The writers would have the knowledge and experience of writing for many years, but they may not be able to deliver their knowledge to the learners as the teachers who degreed in writing skill can do. It is true that should put the right person to the right job, however, that might be wrong in some case. According to the argument, I think the degree in teaching English should teach writing course. As we knew that writer is the person who express and sharing his idea by using text. He has idea to express and also has techniques to persuade his readers to interest in his work. Although he has the good idea, he could not teach every student to get an idea because it is the individual experience and knowledge. Moreover, writers have their own writing style which could not teach students too. On the other hand, learning writing with a degree in teaching English, students could improve the writing skill for instant; well organization, coherence, sentence structure, grammar, and so on. Firstly, writer is the job that deals with writing skill; besides, the writers are the professional of writing as they usually write their works. Secondly, they used to write a lot of stories in their work, so they will have many experiences than the people who have a degree in teaching English. Thirdly, the writer can choose the beautiful, creative, and suitable words choices for the work; thereby, they will transfer the sense of language, or describe the story better than the people who have a degree in teaching English. I have the sense that the writer will be unsuitable for teaching in writing course. This is because writers have own way or style to write. Their thoughts are expressed in individual ideas. Although they are great to communicate with readers by writing well, they are not appropriate well in teaching. I mean that the writers are still working with their head or only themselves. Moreover, I see many writers have something inaccessible, they write alone, so they may not understand other or student’s requirement, which they can be unstable of giving point. Unlike someone who got teaching English’s degree, they are efficient in teaching. They learnt from the teaching way, which they know and realize how the real instruction is. In each class it has criteria to follow, which person with degree can be making the standard for their teaching. Finally, writing course is quite delicate if instructors have not enough comprehension of teaching, their students would be getting useless methods of writing.

I put myself into this idea because writing is a subjective course concerning the speakers’ thoughts or ideas. However, someone with a degree in teaching English can teach the writing course, but they can only teach about the pattern of the paragraph or essay. Sometime they are fixing only the grammar. I support the Eng teacher to teach writing. For this reason, teacher can transmit the knowledge to student better than writer. Eng teacher has teaching skill and they know how to make student understand in content. They were learned from the experience that they ever teach student before. On the other hand, writer certainly has knowledge about writing. However, the weak point of writer is knowledge transmission to student. Although writer has knowledge deeper than Eng teacher, they have not transmission skill. They can not teach or express out the deeply knowledge in their brain. Untouchable idea of writer is likely a diamond in a box which cannot open. To sum up, writing knowledge of writer may be more than Eng teacher. However, student should get knowledge from Eng teacher instead of a deeply or incomprehensible idea of writer. ReplyDeleteThere’re many reasons for me to support writer to teach the writing course. The most important for me is the experience. Writer is the one who use their skill to earn money. If their writing skill is poor, they cannot earn their place in the writer battlefield. When we compare to the ordinary English teacher, writer sure have more experience than them for sure. A teaching certificate represents the capability to teach not only teaching skills that they have been gained, but also teaching by psychological thought. They precisely provide the knowledge about the principle of writing, method of writing, and suggestion the writing’s styles to their students. Students can explore the own styles of writing after teacher taught by themselves. At the result, those students can write every works best according to their own styles of writing. In addition, teacher are not only teaching, but also looking deep inside of students’ mine. Teacher will provide different ways to teach with different students by using a psychological analysis. Even when students need help, teacher will be the first person that students are called. ReplyDeleteIn general, people who have a degree to teaching English are assigned to teach in writing class. In my opinion, English teacher cannot teach writing as good as a writer teaches. In fact, writing in effective way needs logical thinking skill as much as basic writing skill such as grammar and structure of essay. However, logical thinking is the most important thing to transfer idea smoothly and clearly and is the first step for writing. Therefore, writing class should be trained by a writer who is expert in thinking in logical way more than English teacher. When students study in writing class, they learn in the way to write and organize ideas in form of essay structure, but English teachers may not concentrate in student’s thinking and using suitable language. On the contrary, writers will teach students in a way of expressing idea in logical way as they ever used in their work. Sometimes, teaching from teacher is not helpful as learning by special person who work in particular career. A tiger can teach a cat to eat, but cannot teach it to hunt as tiger do. In case of writing class, no one can teach how to write a good writing as a writer teaches.

The idea of “putting the right man in the right job” is very interesting. As a job, writer has to express the ideas by writing, but teacher has a goal to educate someone in academic way. For me, I don’t think that writer will be able to teach someone academically, because many of them aren’t a good teacher. Writer knows how to write things but does not know how to teach students. A teacher who carries the teaching degree is the right choice. Educator will not have to be as perfect as writer, teacher is only good enough to express the real purpose of writing to students. I think teacher has the sense of teaching more than others.

In my opinion, the teacher who teach writing subject should be writers. The writers are the people who have to use writing skill every day. They will have high experience than someone who has degree of English teaching. Moreover, they will use technique of writing as the writer to teach the student. This is the real writing cause should be. Before I have studied writing one, I didn’t have any skill of writing. Although, I have learnt writing one, I have lots of skill. No matter my grade is, even I will get F. I have a skill may be more than the other that got A from this subject. You are the real writing’s teacher, and you are the best.

ReplyDeleteIn my thought the sentence of “putting the right person to the right job” it is a true for me because I think when anyone does the best in something they will be love or like it. In the term of teaching-learning (English) writing courses I think whatever who suitable for teaching that person must be love in their teaching love and in their job. In the other hand, I agree with the allowing a writer to teach writing because I think their may has experiences more than the someone that graduate with degree in teaching. In addition, nowadays we will see many of books in the bookshop and in the best seller books have not only who graduates in degree of English teaching can be only writer. Finally, I think we should be allow a writer to teach writing because the good writer it not up to only in the grammatical or pattern of writing but it up to logically idea or the prominently idea of writing style.

I agree with the idea of 'putting the right person to the right job' because it is the right way to make efficiency in each job. Likewise, writer should allow teaching writing courses because writer has an experience in writing more than a teacher. Moreover, writers have many techniques to teach the students in order to make understanding in writing. Because of writing, it has to use logical in order to make a perfect writing. We have to study with a teacher who has ability in writing skill. In addition, the writer can explain the student about how to write a good work and how to improve their writing by using writer’s experience.

Moreover, writing as a career usually encounters with problems and gets new experiences;therefore, they will teach students from real situations more than the theory

I believe in the teacher who graduate in the right way is more powerful than the writer because they have the steps of teaching. I did not say the writer is not appropriate, but in theory. We should get the person who is from the theory. Even though, they might not as good as the writer because they are full with experiences. Also, the experiences can make you are a good writer, but the way to make clear to student is more important in the theory way too. Some students may be not able to write in the correct way. It may because they are not clear in the whole picture of writing, or cannot separate the many kinds of writing. However, if they both – the writer, and the person who are graduated in writing, are certainly believe that they can teach student clear in writing. Thus, they are appropriate to be a teacher for writing course.
